WHAT IS AYSO ALL ABOUT ?
AYSO is a child development program that uses soccer. Children range from 4-1/2 to 18 years of age. Have fun browsing around the site and feel free to send an email for questions or comments. Be sure to check out other pages which explain the coaching program, referee program, Sponsor program, and more.
Region 9 is located in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, California. We are affiliated with the National Office of the American Youth Soccer Organization as part of Area E, Section 10. Our Region has more than 300 teams with over 2900 boys and girls ages 5 to 18 participating. The season begins with practices in early August; continues with Opening Day in early September; and will end with our final Regular Season games in late November. Play continues with Area Playoffs, All-Stars, and Premier League ending with the Region 9 Pot-O-Gold Tournament in March.
Region 9's success is solely the result of the thousands and thousands of hours volunteered each year by our Coaches and Assistant Coaches (more than 300 each year); our adult and youth Referees; the parents who staff our Snack Bar and Information Booth every Saturday; and our Board of Directors.
Region 9 enthusiastically supports AYSO's Philosophy:
Open Registration
Balanced Teams
Everyone Plays
Positive Coaching
Good Sportsmanship
We believe that Child Development comes first; soccer is only a way to reach that G-O-O-O-O-O-O-A-L!

AYSO
Region 9 is only one part of a national organization. AYSO has regions all over the United States along with regions in Moscow Russia and Puerto Rico. For more information about the AYSO organization go to the AYSO National site at www.soccer.org .
AYSO is an affiliate member of the United States Soccer Federation.
The Region is administered by two boards. The Executive Board is made up of approximately 10 persons including the Commissioner, Treasurer, Coaching administrator, and Referee administrator. The general board includes all the Division Administrators and other program volunteers.
Since 1995 we have been able to add 1000 children at a rate of almost 300 per year. Even at this high growth rate, we had to turn some children away because the Region was short of coaches and field space.
In 1997, we began certifying coaches and will allow only certified coaches to take a team this year.
Our children deserve the best! In the spirit of providing the best for them, the Region is allowing only certified adults to coach. The training, safety and emotional needs of the children will be more than satisfied with coaches who have been trained in the basics of soccer, as well as trained in the basic emotional needs of the players. All of us want the best for our children.
Training and Certification consists of:
Coach Safe Haven Training: a two-hour course, included in all of the Coaching Clinics
U6, U8 and U10 Coach Training: a five to six-hour course geared specifically to each age group
Intermediate, Advanced Coach Training: a two-day course designed for U12 and above coaches
The region provides the clinics, free of charge to the participants.
To meet this certification goal, we need EVERYONE'S help!
As you know, the basic philosophy of AYSO is Everybody Plays. We, as a region, do everything in our power to ensure that all of the children have the chance to kick a soccer ball.
However, if only a few people volunteer for certification, we will only be able to accept a limited number of children on a limited number of teams. In other words, some children may not be able to participate even if they are registered to play.
Come to the Registration ready to sign up and please ask how you can become certified to coach. Help us give as many children as possible the opportunity to play this wonderful sport.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.
Respectfully:
Brigette Brazier, Commissioner
Region 9 Thousand Oaks
